If you have never listened to his music or had the chance to sit down with him and talk for a minute then you really might not understand the true meaning of the title â€--Doe Chasaâ€. Born and raised in the streets of South Philadelphia, â€--Marvalis†a.k.a. â€--E-Marv†or â€--Marv the Star†or if you want to take it to the government Eric Cephas is the name. He was raised in a single parent home like the majority of black youth growing up in poverty stricken areas. Ericâ€--s mom tried to shield him from all of the hood drama and corner activities. She sent him to Albert M. Greenfield public school which is located in downtown Philadelphia, away from his local schools where the neighborhood kids attended . Years down the line after middle school Marv still made his way back to the hood by attending South Philly High a.k.a. â€--Southernâ€. During his tenure at â€--Southern†Eric became Marvalis or E-Marv for short.. Marv popped up on little lunch room battles and ciphers and he cut class to rap and gamble in the school bathrooms and â€--duck spots†(thatâ€--s usually where went down at). The actual name Marvalis came from a hood legend name Brian â€--BEEZ†Johnson who passed away in the year 2001. Marv used to rap for his homies from the hood and if they knew anyone that was supposedly hot then they would go to their hood and just get it in. Marv isnâ€--t into battle rapping no more, â€--I Make Musicâ€, he says. Marv doesnâ€--t knock any of the Philly artists thatâ€--s doing their thing on the DVD and mixtape circuit, he just believes that there is more than one way of going about getting noticed, and heâ€--s doing it his way. A Doe Chasa is a person that does what they have to do to get their money right, get the bills paid and keep some food in the fridge and on the table. Legally or illegally doesnâ€--t even matter because the getters are separated from the quitters, says Marv. He has done all types of things when it came to getting money. â€--I even joined the Navy and was overseas getting that money from Bushâ€, he says. In July of 2004 Marvâ€--s home was raided by the ATF & FBI stemming from allegations of illegal activity. Eventually all charges were dropped. â€--They tried to end my career on some bullshitâ€, says Marv. â€--I donâ€--t justify selling drugs or doing anything illegal but it was something that I was exposed to and I know a lot of other people have been exposed to as well. These dudes are out here rapping and telling people they have all this money and things of that nature, well Iâ€--m letting everybody know that I am hungry, that Iâ€--m out here scrambling for this paper!†All of this motivated Marv to call his first official mixtape Live From 215: â€--Life Before Diamondsâ€, which is hosted by the DJ Khaled. â€--My team thought we should just jump out and go hard on the first official mixtape so we went and got DJ Khaled to bless us. I know the whole 215 should have my back once this shit gets popping.†SO PHILADELPHIA GET READY BECAUSE THERE IS A NEW ROOK ON DECK…AS MARV WOULD SAY, GET ON THE BUS OR GET LEFT IN THE DUST!
